Our Baby room- 0-2 years old

The importance of a calm environment

Our baby room cares for children of the ages 0-2 years old. The room is located upstairs, above the Toddler room benefiting us with a large open space for movement. The space is calm and peaceful, with provision that stimulates learning to be inquisitive whilst supporting the babies emotional well-being. We see our environment as a ‘third teacher’ allowing practitioners to spend time watching and following the babies interests, encouraging them to  use their senses to explore open ended resources and by really getting to know them individually.

Parent partnership is very important to us

Our Baby team have the privilege to enjoy meeting each child’s needs, understanding how babies interact and develop and to extend their learning appropriately. We support the parents as much as we do the child, reassuring you by earning your trust and confidence in that we will always have your babies interest at heart. Communication is key and what we are great at, forming a strong partnership with each and every family to ensure we all have an enjoyable day.  We make time for handovers with parents, we use Daily books to document in detail all relevant information and organise parent evenings annually to imbed our partnerships with parents.

The attributes our practitioners naturally obtain in the baby room are to be caring and attentive at all times, with soft tones of voice, positive facial expressions and body language, with warmth and sense of security, bringing out the best in each child they care for. We take great satisfaction in knowing how much of a difference we really make in each and every child’s lives, especially in 0-2 years.

Toddler room- 2-3 years old

Forest Friends Nursery Toddler Room

Our 2-3 year room

Our 2-3 year room is based down stairs in a large, calming, open space, inviting children to explore, consisting of a separate alcove to allow the children to independently free flow in and out of. The environment is set up understanding this age’s independence and individuality. We have a mark making, messy area one side of the room, and table top and floor spaces, a cosy area and a home corner enriched with open ended and natural resources waiting to be used in various ways. The environment encourages language skills and co-operation, physical experiences and allowing children to move freely and by being responsive to the child’s current needs and interests.

Our practitioners have natural skills to cater for this age groups ever change of feelings and behaviour. Toddlers gain a drive to ‘do it myself’ which we encourage immensely. A peaceful, calming room with patient practitioners enables children to focus and concentrate more, meeting their emotional wellbeing. We have places to relax, understanding children need time to recharge, feel safe and secure, encouraging communication.

We encourage exploration and investigation both indoors and outdoors, benefiting from a large outdoor space spending more time outside then inside. We appreciate how active children naturally are and cater for this by using the outdoors as a ‘third teacher’. Being active is essential for children’s brain and body development, which we are blessed by being in such close proximity of local parks, forests, fields and nature trails as well as our own outdoor spaces.

Pre-school- 3-5 years old.

Our Pre-school room

Pre-school is located in the newest part of our building. It comprises of a large space, with a kitchen off the side, with also independent use of the toilet facilities. The room also has double patio doors that lead into their own outdoor paved area encouraging free flow access . Pre-school is very much about encouraging independence and self-awareness, providing choice and enabling decision making. The environment is set up with open ended, natural resources that respond to children’s interest’s, to support creativity and encourage exploration. We very much feel that sending a confident, independent and happy child is the strongest emphasis on being ‘ready for school’.

We split the room size into two, enabling children to be part of a smaller group most of the day to enable the formation of social skills and co-operation in a larger ratio of 8, and by preparing their emotional well being  and self confidence.  The younger three olds are given the opportunity to mix with the older children through out the day, creating time for empathy and role-modelling and the encouragement of language skills.

Children are naturally physical and being active is essential for brain and body development which is why we enable the free flow approach in Pre-school. We encourage children to spend more time outdoors then indoors bringing an array of benefits to their well being, mental health and physical developments.  We select resources and equipment and plan appropriate activities that will inspire children to be active, we follow their interests to encourage them to learn, we supply plenty of opportunities to encourage being active, and finally we put the main emphasis on the day being as much FUN as possible.
